NYO Competition.

The Native Youth Olympics had their competition here in Kipnuk this past Friday and Saturday. It was my first time seeing any of the events and it was pretty interesting. I don't have pictures from both days, but below are the knee jump, wrist carry, and one foot high kick.

This is a girl doing the one foot high kick. You have to kick the ball with one foot and land on that same foot. It was awesome to watch, especially when it was really high!

Male one foot high kick.

With the wrist carry, two people carry the wooden pole up and down the gym until the person hanging on by their wrist can't hold on any longer.

With the knee jump, they start from sitting on the knees, then pop up to their feet and see how far they jumped.

The games started off by a playing of the Star Spangled Banner on a violin. In the background is Paul, the NYO coach, and Jim, the principal.

It's pretty cold out there and freeze-up is here. People are out ice fishing, and Liane was give two smelt by one of her students yesterday.

New teacher housing, two four-plexes being build behind the school...right behind the school.

This is one of my former students on her swing set outside her house!
