Salmon Fishing!
I just got back to the University of Alaska dorms in Bethel, where we're staying during our in-service. After dinner we went out Salmon fishing! It was great! We were just along for the ride, and didn't intend on actually fishing - but we did. There were three boats that went out (for some reason all the men went on a regular boat ride, and the women were all about the fishing) and our boat was the only one that caught anything! The fisherman we were with, and his wife, were good luck apparently because he caught two silver salmon - one female and one male - and one small pike, which he threw back because they are a very bony fish he says. Tomorrow night, the fisherman's wife is going to bring us some caviar that she's going to make with the two skeins of eggs she got from the female salmon. I've never had it before, so this will be something else having fresh caught salmon caviar!
They gave us each a piece of fish! So it's in the freezer now, and as long as we remember to take it with us when we leave on Wednesday, we'll have a very nice piece of salmon to eat when we get back to Kipnuk.
